“The highest of distinctions is service to others.” -King George IV

Neighborhood Watch

I co-founded our neighborhood watch and worked closely with Bloomington Police to create the first training manual for the city.

Bloomington Men's Group

I co-founded a Men's Group that has met continuously in Bloomington for over 30 years.  The model we developed for this group has been studied and replicated -- as it is a leaderless group.

BCAT

In addition to being a volunteer at Bloomington Cable Access Television, I was also a producer of a television series that dealt with Attention Deficit Disorder.

CHADD, Bloomington

For CHADD (Children & Adults with ADD), I coordinated a monthly, no-cost support group for 16 years -- many of those meetings held in the Bloomington council chambers.

Bloomington Dog Park

Called the off-leash park, I have led annual clean-up events, gathered usage data, and worked with closely with Bloomington Park & Recreation.

CHADD, National

I served on the national board of Children & Adults with ADD) and was elected board president from 2010-2012. During that time, we went from a finance and leadership crisis to healthy staff and secure budget.

Exchange Student Host

In addition to being the safe and fun home for our children's friends, we've also taken in a number of students from Switzerland, France, and Bethlehem. For the past seven years, we have proudly hosted (our second son), Walid Issa.

Domestic Abuse

I created a company to deliver domestic-abuse programming to court-ordered individuals. In addition to working with inmates of the Lino Lakes Prison, we gave $27,000 worth of services to indigent individuals.

ARK

As a volunteer with ARK (a Presbyterian-based program) we brought together at-risk youth from across the globe to engage in conversations of leadership and peace in Guatemala, Bethlehem, and Minneapolis.

Guatemala

We have traveled a number of times to San Lucas, Toliman, Guatemala to volunteer on various projects including building a hospital, water system improvements, and erosion projects.

Parenting Classes

I am certified in, and have delivered two different parenting classes specifically addressing challenging children.
